In Black Desert Online Players are able to catch fish to use for trading, selling, and cooking. For many players, this can be a very lucrative life skill to invest time in. The value of the fish that you catch can depend on its rarity and freshness. That’s right, the fish that you catch have a time limit for when it will spoil! If it is not sold or cooked in before spoiling, you might as well delete it from your inventory.

Catching the fish
- Locate and travel to a fishing NPC. If you do not know how to locate a finish NPC, view our instructions on How to Autorun to NPC’s on Black Desert Online (BDO) – XBOX.
- Speak to the fishing NPC and purchase a basic fishing rod. There are multiple tiers of fishing rods in BDO, each with their own benefits. These benefits include perks such as a reduction in fishing time and higher fishing rod durability.
- Locate and travel to a body of water you would like to fish in. There are different bodies of water in BDO that contain different types of fish that can be caught. For example, fish caught in Velia (ocean water) will be different fish caught near Heidel (river water).
- Equip your fishing rod by selecting it in your inventory.
- Press “A” to start fishing.
- Once you feel a bite, you will be prompted to begin playing a mini fishing game. This is a great way to quickly catch fish. You are also given the ability to auto fish and let your character continuously catch fish until your inventory is full. This is done by doing absolutely nothing! FISH DO NOT STACK UNLESS DRIED!!!
Drying the fish
- First, make sure that it is not raining. For obvious reasons it is not possible to dry fish in the rain, so avoid the headache and wait until the sky clears. Gotta love the detail in BDO!
- Open your processing menu
- Scroll to and select the “Drying” option. It is represented by the fish icon.
- Select the fish you caught
- Confirm your choice with “Y” to start the drying process.
- If successful your dried fish will be in your inventory.
Now you don’t have to worry about your fish spoiling. Just remember that when you dry your fish, it loses value if you planned on trading or selling it.
