How to Capture A Monster in Monster Hunter Wilds

Before you set out for the ultimate hunt, it’s essential to gather all the tools and materials you’ll need. In this guide, we’ll cover how to prepare your trank bombs and the traps—specifically the Shock trap and the Pitfall trap—that will help you capture your target with precision.

Step 1: Make Traps

Tools & Materials Needed

• Trank Bombs & Trank Darts: Required for the final capture.
• Traps: We’ll cover two types:
  • Shock Trap
  • Pitfall Trap

Finding Trank Bomb Materials

1. Open Your Map: Use the filter options located at the bottom left of the screen to locate what you need quickly.
2. Scroll Through Items: Search for the materials needed for trank bombs.
3. Required Materials:
   • Sleep Herb
   • Parashroom
4. Set a Waypoint: Select the item and tap “Set Waypoint” to auto-path to its location.

Step 2: Assembling the Pitfall Trap

Materials Needed for the Pitfall Trap

• Trap Tool: Obtainable from the vendor.
• Net: Requires additional items to create.

Building the Net

1. Combine Two Items:
   • Spider Web
   • Ivy
2. Where to Find Them:
   • Map Filter Method: Use the same method as above, although you may have to switch regions.
   • Locations: Both Ivy and Spider Web are found in Scarelt Forest.
3. Additional Component:
   • Thunderbug Capacitor can be found in the Ruins.

Step 3: Purchasing and Crafting

1. Visit Base Camp Provisions Stockpile:
   • Once you have gathered everything, go to the provisions Stockpile NPC in your base camp.
2. Purchase Additional Tools:
   • Scroll through the item list and purchase a couple of Trap Tools if needed.
3. Crafting Time:
   • Head back to your tent and craft your traps and trank bombs if you don’t have them already.

Step 4: The Hunt

Engaging the Monster

• Monitor the Monster:
  • Watch its movement closely during combat.
  • Pay attention to its mini map icon.
• Know When to Trap:
  • When the monster’s health is low, a skull will appear over its head.
  • At that moment, stop attacking—using further damage may kill it instead of capturing it.

The Capture

1. Deploy Your Trap: Use the trap once the monster is ready to be caught.
2. Final Capture Action:
   • Approach the trapped monster.
   • Hit it with 2 Trank Bombs to put it to sleep instantly, ending the hunt.
